Lloyd Bradbury
Co-Founder & Executive Director (Australia)
Lloyd is a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce student at Monash University. Majoring in Chinese and Finance during his studies has allowed him to explore passions for business, investment, politics and intellectualism in the Asia-Pacific region. These are passions that he has furthered through studies at Nanjing University and East China Normal University, as well as through representing Australia at the 2011 G20 Youth Summit in Paris, France. His experiences in China are extensive and include working with ANZ in Shanghai, undertaking volunteer translation work for the 2010 Shanghai Film Festival, performing Chinese opera and travelling extensively through China.

Lloyd co-founded the Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative in December 2010, with the goal of creating a platform for young professionals across Australia and China to engage with the truly important issues of the Sino-Australian relationship.

 

Cindy Gottinger
Executive Director (Greater China)
Cindy Gottinger is based in Beijing and currently works in the brand management and strategy division at Volkswagen Group China. She is responsible for developing the brand awareness and strategy for Skoda in a highly competitive and growing Chinese automotive market.Cindy graduated from Monash University in Melbourne Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts majoring in economics, Chinese and German. During her final year at University Cindy was selected to participate in the Australia National Internship Program (ANIP) in Canberra where she worked as a research assistant for the Hon. Wayne Swan, current Federal Treasurer of Australia (previously Federal Shadow Treasurer).Cindy has extensive work experience in both the public and private sector. Before moving to Beijing Cindy held the position of International business development manager at AIMG media holdings where she managed the expansion of Chinese media properties both domestically and abroad. Prior to working for AIMG holdings Cindy worked for a number of years in the Private Wealth Management division at Goldman Sachs JB Were.

An active participant in the Chinese community in Australia, Cindy is frequently invited to emcee a variety of business and community events both in Australia and China. In 2010 she was invited to emcee the Australia Football League’s (AFL) first international match played in China between Melbourne Demons and Brisbane Lions where the crowd exceeded 7000 spectators. Cindy is still actively involved in the Chinese business community in Australia and continues to works with Chinese brands as they integrate into the Australian market. Cindy speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese, German and conversational Vietnamese.

Cindy is currently the Executive Director of Australia China Young Professional Initiative (ACYPI) in Greater China and is dedicated to establishing a platform for young professionals to engage, learn and develop within the Australia China space.

 

Henry Makeham
Co-Founder & Adviser
Henry Makeham holds double First Class Honours degrees in Law and Asian Studies (Chinese) from The Australian National University (ANU), Canberra. Henry has also studied at Peking University, the Berkeley-Tsinghua Inter-University Program and the East China University of Politics and Law.Henry founded the Australia-China Youth Dialogue, co-founded the Australia-China Youth Association, the Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative and has served on the Editorial Boards of East Asia Forum and the Federal Law Review. He has been the National Student Group Leader of the inaugural Australian young leaders delegation invited to China by Premier Wen Jiabao and worked with the Hon. Kevin Rudd MP (then Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and International Security, now Minister for Foreign Affairs and former Prime Minister of Australia).He is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Endeavour Award, has been recognised as a Global Emerging Voices Fellow by the Torino World Affairs Institute in partnership with the German-US Marshall Fund and Stiftung Mercator, and selected by The Lowy Institute for International Policy as one of Australia’s 50 ‘New Voices’ on international leadership. Henry is a delegate invitee to the inaugural 2012 Global China Dialogue.

Henry’s publications have appeared in China Daily, Hong Kong Law Journal, East Asia Forum, Canberra Times and Australia-China Business INSIGHT. Henry has also engaged in a number of public speaking and media events concerning Australia-China relations and Asia-literacy. These include panelist for the Asia Education Foundation’s Leading 21st Century Schools Forum with Geraldine Doogue, ABC Radio National’s Australia Talks, Radio Australia’s Connect Asia and SBS World News.

Henry currently resides in Hong Kong. As of September 2012, Henry will begin his legal career with the international law firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP as a Trainee Solicitor in Hong Kong and New York.

 

Fiona Lawrie
ACYPI Beijing Director
In 2011 Fiona moved to Beijing to help establish THIRST, a Beijing based global organisation which is an initiative of the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum. In 2012, 12 million people worldwide will form a community and fundamentally change the way water is valued. Prior to joining THIRST, Fiona was a banker with ANZ Private in Melbourne for a number of years.Fiona grew up in Singapore, holds a bachelor of Arts in Chinese and Politics from the University of Melbourne and completed her Chinese language study at the Political University, Taiwan, and Liaoning University, Shenyang.

 

Lauren Murray
ACYPI Canberra Director
Lauren graduated from the Australian National University as a Bachelor of Asia-Pacific Studies in 2009, attaining first-class honours in Chinese literature and the University Medal. After pursuing scholarship opportunities in New Zealand and Taiwan, she commenced a Juris Doctor at the ANU in July 2010. Lauren is fluent in Mandarin, and is currently developing research interests in Chinese-English translation and the historical exchange of material culture between China and the West. Her first co-authored academic publication will be published in East Asian History in early 2012. Her career objective is to combine practice as a legal professional in China with her passion for academic research.

 

Stephanie Wang
ACYPI Melbourne Director
Stephanie currently works for the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Victoria, focusing on Victoria and China relations. Her previous work experiences include working as a lawyer with Minter Ellison and as an electorate officer with a Federal member of parliament. Stephanie has a Masters degree in English and Mandarin interpreting and translating, a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Commerce. She has also studied Chinese Law at Tsinghua University.Stephanie is passionate about her Chinese cultural ancestry and shares the dedication of the ACYPI team to supporting our peers in Australia and China make the most of the opportunities and challenges created by the Australia-China relationship.

 

Banu Kannu
ACYPI Shanghai Co-Director
Banu Kannu is a communications and events professional who has been living and working in Shanghai, China since 2007. She is currently head of the Asia-Pacific division of NHST Events, part of global news group, NHST, focusing on developing maritime and energy events. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Murdoch University in Perth and has been interested in cross-cultural communications for as long as she can remember. A member of the Australia-China Youth Association, she is also a coordinator of the Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative in Shanghai. Banu worked closely with the Australia Pavilion and Austrade during the Shanghai World Expo 2010 and frequently attends and supports AustCham events in Shanghai. While English is her native language, she is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Tamil and is starting to work on her Norwegian and Shanghainese.

 

Sarah Stewart
ACYPI Shanghai Co-Director
Sarah Stewart, originally from Sydney, moved to China in 2007. Sarah is currently Senior Manager – International Markets at Touchmedia. With offices in Asia and New York, Touchmedia is a world leader in the field of taxi advertising with 400 staff, 40,000 screens over three countries and more than 40 patents on its proprietary hardware and software systems.Sarah oversees international development at Touchmedia, and was lead project manager on the establishment of the company’s first international markets, Canada and Hong Kong, in 2011. Prior to working with Touchmedia, Sarah spent two years as a project manager at the Beijing Consulting Group, an Australian-owned consulting firm based in Beijing.
In late 2008, Sarah established the Shanghai branch of the Australia China Alumni Association (ACAA), a non-profit founded to develop and maintain links with Australian university alumni in China. In her role at the ACAA, Sarah was part of the three-person team that established the inaugural Australia China Alumni Awards in 2009, a high-profile media campaign to recognise outstanding alumni of Australian universities and raise the profile of Australian education in China. Sarah also played a key role in the ACAA’s expansion into Guangzhou, and in the ACAA establishing formal ties with leading corporate sponsors including ANZ, Telstra, Qantas and Mallesons Stephen Jaques.Sarah holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) from the University of Sydney, and also spent time studying at the University of California. Sarah speaks conversational Mandarin, and has contributed articles to magazines including Australia China Connections and World of Chinese.

 

Andrea Myles
ACYPI Sydney Co-Director
Andrea Myles is currently employed by the University of Technology, Sydney, within the UTS China Research Centre. A mandarin-speaker, she has completed an MA International Studies (China) and an MA China Studies at UTS and lived, worked, travelled and studied in China extensively. She is the National Director of The Engaging China Project, a youth-based China-literacy program for Australian high school students, and has been an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development, working on a 12 month education development initiative in Shangri-la, a rural Tibetan area of Yunnan Province. She has received a number of awards and accolades for her China work, and is widely interested in Chinese culture, music, development, engagement, education, travelling and food.

 

Hannah Skrzynski
ACYPI Sydney Co-Director
Hannah is the Director of Creative Asia, an arts management consultancy focused on building cross-cultural collaborations between Australia and China. She has extensive experience working in the Australia – China cultural field, and is a Mandarin speaker.Hannah previously spent three and a half years living in Beijing, working on major cultural events including the Beijing International Literary Festival and 2008 Beijing Olympics, and as Senior Culture and Public Affairs Officer at the Australian Embassy Beijing.From 2009-2010, Hannah coordinated the Beijing Embassy’s cultural program in China, as well as advising Australian and Chinese arts organization’s on bilateral cultural exchanges.

In early 2010, Hannah returned to Sydney to found the consultancy Creative Asia as a key channel for connecting Chinese and Australian arts organizations to mount events internationally, and building cross-cultural collaborations and exchange between the two countries. She collaborates with individual artists, arts organisations and government agencies to produce new cross-cultural events across the contemporary arts.

Hannah sits on the board of Performance 4A, and is Co-Chair of the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art Advisory Committee. She is current Co-Director of the Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative, Sydney, and is a recipient of one of the inaugural Sidney Myer Creative Fellowships, awarded by the Sidney Myer Foundation in 2011 to 12 artists and arts managers from across Australia.
