ACYPI is proud to support the ANU Centre on China in the World’s upcoming book launch and panel discussion in Melbourne.  This is a unique opportunity to connect with China scholars from the ANU CIW in Melbourne.


The China Story Yearbook 2014: Shared Destiny will be launched by Professor the Hon Gareth Evans AC QC, Chancellor, The Australian National University, followed by a panel discussion on ‘Shared Destiny: China under Xi Jinping’ with Professor Geremie R Barmé, Professor Gloria Davies and Dr Jane Golley.


The China Story Yearbook 2014: Shared Destiny is a free publication; copies will be distributed at the launch.

Professor Geremie R Barmé is a historian, cultural critic, filmmaker, translator and web-journal editor who works on Chinese cultural and

intellectual history from the early modern period (1600s) to the present. He is the Founding Director of the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW), ANU.


Professor Gloria Davies is a literary scholar, historian and translator whose research covers a range of areas: Chinese intellectual and literary history from the 1890s to the present; contemporary Chinese thought; and studies of cultural flows in the digital age. She is Professor of Chinese Studies at Monash University and a member of the Monash Asia Institute and the Australian Centre on China in the World’s advisory board.


Dr Jane Golley is an economist focused on a range of Chinese transition and development issues. She is an Associate Director of the Australian Centre on China in the World, ANU, and head of the China Numbers research stream. Jane was the president of the Chinese Economic Society Australia in 2010–Event Sponsor 2012, and continues to be an active member of that society.
